the ground socket was disconnected from the fridge that i brought last week, is it still safe

It is not so much a matter of "safe" as it is longevity. Without the ground plug your fridge cannot safely discharge excess voltage, and that may shorten its lifespan.

 

Did you buy the refrigerator as an "Open-Box" special? If so you may have been purchasing it as-is. Or did you purchase the unit as new? If you purchased a new unit, and it arrived without a ground plug, I'd raise the issue with your salesperson, and get that puppy exchanged.

 

The ground plug is an important part of any refrigerators operation. I wouldn't buy a fridge that was missing it. Maybe it is a simple fix, and Futre Shop can arrange to have a new plug end installed. Talk to your salesperson.
