These speakers are designed to be connected to the speaker outputs of an external amplifier (like an AV receiver). Most TVs, on the other hand, have what are called "line level" audio outputs which must be connected to the line level input of an amplifier, and cannot be used to directly drive a speaker.
Your options are to buy a low-cost stereo or AV receiver to power a set of speakers like the ones you picked out, or to buy a "home theatre in a box" system (you could just use the front pair of speakers rather than the entire set, if you wish). In either case, you can put as long a length of speaker cable as you want between the amplifier and each speaker. Most "bare speakers" like the Bose set you looked at do not ship with any speaker cable, but you can buy bulk rolls of speaker cable at Future Shop and just about any large hardware store.
