Connecting my DAV-HDZ284 Sony Bravia Home Theatre

We bought a Sony Bravia DAV-HDZ284 Home Theatre System.  We have a Sharp LCD HD TV and a Bell Receiver (not HD).  We have the surround hooked up to the Bell Receiver (TV) and DVD Player.  We have an Xbox 360 unit as well as a Nintendo Wii.  How can we hook these up to enjoy them in surround?  We are at a absolute loss and can't figure it out.  Please help us.  Just as a side the Xbox 360 and Wii do not have to be hooked up at the same time, we can switch out the cables.

Thanks!!!!!

Re: Connecting my DAV-HDZ284 Sony Bravia Home Theatre

The DAV-HDZ284 has three separate audio inputs: a digital optical surround sound input, a coaxial digital surround sound input, and an analog stereo input. I don't have access to a user manual for your DAV-HDZ284 - but I suspect you can connect something to all those inputs at the same time, and as long as you only have one of the connected boxes powered on, the DAV-HDZ284 will automatically switch to the input with an active connection. Assuming this to be the case...

1. connect the XBox 360 digital optical output to the digital optical input on the back of the DAV-HDZ284. The XBox 360 is capable of sending full surround sound to your DAV-HDZ284, so you will hear sound from all speakers.

2. connect the Wii's stereo output (red and white connectors) the to stereo audio input (red and white connectors) on the back of the DAV-HDZ284. On the Wii, configure it for "Dolby ProLogic II" output as described here . On the DAV-HDZ284 (when listening to the Wii) turn on the Dolby ProLogic II surround sound mode - this will allow you to listed to sound from all your speakers while using the Wii.

Re: Connecting my DAV-HDZ284 Sony Bravia Home Theatre

I have a similar but weird problem. When I connect myWii to my new Sony Bravia the picture is in black and white.

Anyone have any idea why? My 4 year old Prive did not have that problem. Any other hook-up i.e. DVD is OK.
