Does your DVD player/surround sound have a optical in port? If so a fiber optic cord is the easiest solution.
The problem is there is nothing sending the audio from your tv to the surround sound, so the ps3 audio only goes as far as the tv. Also ARC is a possible solution if your surround sound is capable of that. But since it is a DVD player I'm doubtful.
