Pioneer vsx-925-k "lockup"

I have the Pioneer VSX-925-k receiver and am experiencing a problem. I recently moved from Timmins to Moncton and connected everything and i am experiencing the receiver locking up.

My Shaw Direct satellite receiver is plugged into HDMI 1. I turn it on first then the receiver. Once i do that, the receiver freezes. I have to hold down the receivers power button to shut off then back on.

Dont recall this ever happening. Any ideas?

Re: Pioneer vsx-925-k "lockup"

It could be any number of issues:

- HDCP issue, the reciever is detecting the Shaw box as a copying device, connect the Shaw box directly to the

  TV

- HDMI handshake issue, try turning on the Pioneer first, or try a better quality HDMI cable, or switch to  a

component cable, (red/blue/green for video and use an optical cable for sound)

- could be a faulty input on the Pioneer, try another HDMI input

- some owners of Pioneer receivers have reported repairs being necessary to one of the circuit boards; if its

under 30 days, exchange it at Futureshop, if over 30 days contact Pioneer directly

so far it looks like a flakey hdmi cable. I was using a Philips HDMI cable that was good until now. Im now using a Monster cable and so far the receiver is not locking up

Re: Pioneer vsx-925-k "lockup"

I have the same problem sometimes using a Bell PVR. My big issue I have is that when watching analog channels the PCM light is on steady but will blink from time to time and the sound will be interrupted as well. I have switched the HDMI cables around but the problem persists. I have checked the sound settings on the PVR and tried all combinations as well with negative result. The cables I use are the mid price ones, could that be the issue?

Its not a cable issue, its a decoding issue.  Try using an optical cable.  It will give you the Dolby Digital signals.  If the problem still persists with that connection than it is probably the amp's decoder.  If its fine after you switch to Optical, its the HDMI output on the Bell reciever.

If you still have the problem and want it gone, just use the basic audio (red and white RCA'S) and it should go away.
