"3D sound" has existed for a very long time now, though you will hear it referred to as "Surround Sound".
If you are collecting Blu-ray disks you will want to look for a 7.1 channel receiver and compatible speaker arrangement. Be sure the receiver is capable of processing Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD Master Audio, and Uncompressed Pulse-Code-Modulation (PCM) to take advantage of the best sound on the planet.
With surround sound of this quality you will hear sounds not just pan from left to right, but also front to back, up and down, and swirl all around you. The sounds from an HD surround sound system like this are absolutely three dimensional in nature, and if you close your eyes you will swear you've been transported into the movie.
I am so far very impressed with what the 3D Televisions can do, but without the surround sound system, it is only half the experience.
