Sub Polarity

What does the polarity on the subwoofer mean (0 or 180)? And what should I set it to?

Re: Sub Polarity

The polarity switch lets you set the sub-woofer so that it is "in phase" with your other speakers. Think of it like this...

Speakers are "in phase" when all the speakers' cones push out at the same time and pull in at the same time. The sound waves will reinforce each other, producing a nicely blended sound.

Speakers are "out of phase" when one speaker's cone is pulled in while the other speakers' cones are pushing out. The sound waves will cancel each other out,  producing a "hollow" sounding sound.

Re: Sub Polarity

Normally if your Sub is along the same wall as your main front speakers you will set the polarity at 0. If the Sub was along the opposite wall you would likely have to set it at 180 or close to it. Along a side wall the setting could be somewhere in between. You can also experiment a bit with these settings but this will give you some guidelines.
