yamaha htr 6295

I want a buy a subwoofer for the yamaha htr 6295. I already have 5 speakers (2 front, 1 centre and 2 in the back)

What's a good subwoofer that can deliver 7.1 channel?

Thanks,

Re: yamaha htr 6295

Not sure what the question is.  You want a sub that provides 7.1, but the sub won't add 2 more channels...the sub is the point one of the system.

The other question I have is what size speakers are you using currently.  Not so much because you have to match the brand but more so you don't want to go to big or to small.

For satellite speakers I would stasy in the 8 to 10 inch range.  For towers I would go 10 and up.  The key to a great sub isn't so much the size but the power that moves that speaker.

Also a 12" sub has a larger surface area which will in turn provide a higher pressure level and make it seem a little louder and deeper.

I have 2 Velodyne 10" subs running from the Pioneer VSX-1126 and I really enjoy them.

Re: yamaha htr 6295

Thanks for your reply.

As you might have noticed. I no nothing about sound :smileyhappy: The thing is that I had built a room ready with five 6.5" 2 way kevlar in ceiling surround speaker (GR-600)

I bout the Yamaha HTR-6295 receiver only to discover that I needed wires to go from the receiver into the wall ( I think they're called banana wires ) and I still needed a subwoofer.

My understanding from the receiver manual that in order to deliver 7.1 is that I need 5 speakers which I do, it doesn't tell me anything about the sub except that I should use one with a built in amplifier and that I have to "place it exterior to the front left and right speakers facing slighlty inward to reduce reflection from a wall"

I have no idea, whether my speakers are surround or not. I'm looking for a sub that supports what I currently have. This is my question really.

I feel that I rushed in when I bought that receiver without knowing so much about sound systems.

Thanks again

Re: yamaha htr 6295

I think for me to arrive at 7.1 I will need an 2 surround speakers (in addition to what I have now, which are not surround)

The question remains, is there a sub that supports both 5.1 and 7.1 channel layout? What specs should I be looking for?

Re: yamaha htr 6295

That is a good room size, if I were you I will convert the existing 5 speakers for surround and rear and buy a TWO front towers and one Sub woofer to make a bettwe 7.1. I think you need atleast an 150W SW, buy same make of your speaker set to ge a match or go for Yamaha, JBL or HK and look for a deal.
