Memory Storage System: (Container)
My present purchased camera from Future Shop:
= Panasonic Lumix
= FP1
= DMC-FP-1
I am presently using Flash Cards:
= SD/HC
= This memory / flash card, has open, unshielded contacts.
Questions;
1a) Are these flash cards, with open contacts, "prone" to any static electricity ??
Static electricity, will destroy many I.C. components.
2a) Is it safe to store this type of flash / memory card, with “open” contacts,
into loose / static, plastic storage --> envelopes ?
- OR -
2b) Is "better" / "safer" to store this type of flash / memory card, with “open” contacts,
into a separate, ssolid plastic case, for non static, storage ?
.
. Thanks ..

Hi,
A memory card as is will be protected from normal static electricity, however, if the enclosure has been removed in any way, then yes, that does open it up for a wider range of damage and you should store it in a anti-static bag or case.
If that doesn't answer what your question, then please repost in the camera forum so that those experts may assist you.
I hope this helped!

While SD contacts appear to be more exposed compared CF cards.... SD cards are designed to be more robust compared to CF pins snapping inside their cards.
Does anyone remember SmartMedia cards, the contacts were hardly recessed for that media.
Most SD cards are sold with a plastic container for storage when not inside a camera.
