Post Your Pictures - The Never-ending Photo Thread!

[ Edited ]
It's that time of year again - when folks stumble, bleary eye'd from the snow, sleet, sludge - or if you're in Vancouver, rain - into the gorgeous sunshine of spring (again, rain if you're in Vancouver) with cameras in hand.

With that in mind, it's fun to be able to share pictures with each other for a little constructive criticism. Everyone has the ability to post images now (if you'd like to learn how you can read how to do so here).

Here are some of the pictures I've taken over the past two weeks:

Welcome to Vdot

You're not allowed to be here

Blue

Teenaged Wasteland

Mosaid

Almost all of these shots were taken with the Sony Alpha 350k with either the kit lens that came in the box or a Minolta 50mm f/1.7 prime. I have to say I've been really impressed with the Sony - the LiveView and Super SteadyShot have really changed the way I shoot. I was able to get some of those low-plane shots without getting down on the (rather wet) ground - and I've been able to handhold shots slower than 1/30th, something I've never been able to do with a non-stabilized camera.

So... now that we can post pics... post your pics!!

Nice bokeh on the playground equipment :smileyhappy:

I've decided 640px was a nice number to round these to (and they're also all under 150k :smileyhappy:).

And yes, the swing one is supposed to look blown out :smileyhappy:

For what it's worth the blown out look was done in PP. The original is a much nicer "photo", but this one was done for artistic merit.

I just bought the Sony 350K last week, and besides the one hour lesson I got from Graham, I am totally new to taking these types of pics.  Let me know what you think and what I might want to work on.

Thanks!

Curtis - it appears your host doesn't allow hotlinking, that is, sites linking to the photos to be embedded. For everyone else - if you right click on the X and click "view image" you can see them just fine.

I love the dog photo!

I long for a day where it's not overcast in Vancouver. Really, I do.

This was shot with the Sony A350k with a Minolta f/1.7 lens. 1/2000, f/1.7, manual focus, ISO 100. No post-processing.
Aquabus

This one is from just outside the Vancouver Aquarium:
1/1600, f/1.7, automatic focus, ISO 100. I amped the saturation and vibrancy ever so slightly in Apple's Aperture software. This is where the LiveView on the Sony really stood out; being able to flip the screen out and shoot with my face away from the body allowed me to sight the shot easily and put the camera in a place where I simply couldn't get my body behind it (there's a concrete bench there).
Vancouver Aquarium

When I was inside the aquarium I picked up some shots of the sea otters (cutest animals ever) that would be difficult to obtain with other DSLRs. The combination of LiveView and the flip-out screen made it easy to point the camera over the top of the (rather dirty) glass or the obstructing rocks and get a clear, crisp image. I saw other folks doing this with other live-lcd DSLRs - but no one could see what they were shooting!

I'll give you the swivel screen - I'm not sure what everybody was thinking when they incorporated the same live view LCD screen that swivels on every other point and shoot and then opted to not include it in the SLRs.

As far as being overcast, you get waaaay better lighting conditions than in a sunny day :smileytongue:

Wow, the green really pops there. The boat looks like it's cutting through glass, very neat. I like it!
