Hey smclelan, I'd recognize Harbourville even if you just framed up that Blue boat (I indirectly know the young lads who go scallop dragging with it).  I used to live just down the road near Black Rock, and lived before that near Canning.  Yes, it`s a beautiful place (in so many ways), and your darn picture makes me miss it more now even though I was there just last summer.

Last summer, I went down to visit a couple of friends nearby and we and dropped by Harbourville, and there was an adult bald eagle pirched on the roof of the resturant/cottage in the background of your pic.  Living there I was used to them, so never paid much attention.  But I noticed the tourists weren't paying attention either.  They were so busy looking at the water and stuff, they might have thought the bird was a statue or didn't see it.  So one guy notices it after like 1/2 hour when it takes off, and everyone is trying to shoot pics of it 200 yards away, when it was less than 30 feet from them previously! LOL

Here's a couple of pics the wife took 2 days ago when the sun peeked out in the front yard (species tulips):

She's so proud of her flower garden out front, that incidentally I PLANTED!

Chuckanut Highway!

Wow. That's some gorgeous flora from both of you!

I went out for a drive on the Chuckanut (stop giggling) Highway in Washington State yesterday - possibly one of the most scenic drives I've been on. Here's what I shot:

This is the view from the first stop on the Chuckanut. Puget Sound is just beautiful and rather humbling to behold.
Chuckanut View

This corner screamed "car commercial!" to me. I heard the motorcycle coming, so I waited and snapped this shot.
Ridin' the Chuckanut

This was the last stop on the Chuckanut; there are some oyster farms just to the left (South) of the frame. Apparently there's a Bivalve festival in July at the Oyster Farm just down the road. Apparently that means that there's going to be oysters for the eatin' at that time.

Not easy to capture this little gal.  It's a Synanthedon myopaeformis (apple clearwing moth).  This is the first (or second) documented individual in North America (and I had the dubious distinction of finding it).

And this one was taken while I was conducting research in the Okanagan.  It's a honeybee (duh) pollinating an apple blossom.

Both taken with a Canon SD500 (I think - I no longer have that camera).

haha

There was very little Photoshop done to that picture..I took this picture inside the Vancouver Aquarium by the frog section. They had these peep capsules in the middle of the showcase and my girlfriend stood in there to take pictures. So i took a picture of her taking a picture and I was kinda amazed that it came out so cool haha.

Krypto that's fantastic! Seeing something that rare must have been a rush - and snapping a picture of it must have been a rush even more so.

I spent some more time this evening playing with Apple's Aperture and Photomatix. I used Aperture to create multiple versions of my RAW images at varying exposures - I fed those into Photomatix and produced some interesting HDR images. I still need a little bit of practice with this, but I liked the results:

Puget Sound HDR

Aquabus HDR

Playground HDR

Ooo, those are really cool!  And the Aquabus!  I'm also thinking the play park is either on the Kits side or the downtown False creek side, but I can't remember which one (I don't tend to hang out there too often :smileyhappy:).

I was thinking of experimenting with HDR a little bit, just to try it out, but I keep forgetting to set the camera to the RAW format so that I can have all the actual data.  I'm pretty sure you can also do it with jpegs, but the RAW image is definitely the better option.  I actually saw some really cool ones that friends of friends had posted on Facebook... Very very cool (and the colours are so vibrant).
