Please use this thread to list your compatibility experiences with applications for the BlackBerry Storm. Feel free to add any reviews you might have of these reviews (e.g. is it a must have, or should we save our money and stay away, atleast for now??).
With community involvment, I'm sure we'll get a nice list of the various applications here! ![]()
To start with my personal experience, here are some must haves:
- Google Maps - much better maps than the BlackBerry GPS software. This one truely is a must have for Storm owners.
- Facebook - the Storm actually comes with the Facebook application, so you don't need to install it seperately. For all you Facebook users out there, this is indeed an application for you!
- TalkLock - A total and absolute must, at least until BlackBerry creates a version of their own. This is a free download that basically locks the screen while you are talking on the phone so that you no longer have to worry about touching the phone to your cheek and either activating the Speakerphone (man, that can be embarassing) or muting your call. With TalkLock, your screen is locked and only reactivates if you swipe your finger across to unlock the phone. While it may not be the right application for some users, I can bet that the vast majority of BlackBerry Storm users will appreciate this free application (thanks to CellAvant for providing this app).
- Viigo - All I'll say is yum... although still in Beta version on the Storm (there are some little quirks that need to be worked out), this application provides easy RSS access to plenty of news sites, easy weather access (still debating on how accurate this forcast is), and much more. I'm sure the final product will be great, but even the Beta is worth it for users! Again, the price tag is free, so even better! And if you aren't satisfied with the channels options provided, no worries, you can add others. For example, I added the Vancouver Sun with next to no effort. While not all news agencies are associated with Viigo, I'm sure you'll find enough to keep you happy!
I think this is a good start based on what I've been playing with lately. By the way, I've become a total BrickBreaker addict. If you haven't played it yet, DON'T (although it is a great way to learn to become more accurate in using the touch screen
).
At this point, I'll leave it to others to add! Thanks and I'm looking forward to see what you all have to suggest (I want to add other applications, but don't want to spend the money for somethiing I might not want!).

Though I have not tested nor downloaded except emailed to my Storm above link (OTA apps), this link lists free, pay and not fully tested (own risk) apps for the Storm at Crackberry site. I figured to paste the link here at this forum just started by Krypto so all members of this forum who own a Storm can have a chance to download and then talk about it at this site, basically to share ideas etc. Several of these Apps are talked about by Krypto and other members.

Here's some "free" Storm Apps showing up at various forums all around. I have not downloaded nor have I tested these myself.
AIM (instant messenger), Bank of America (mobile banking), Beam Berry (pdf app), Citi Cards (online banking), Flickr (photo sharing), Jabplite (tracking credit cards), Flycast (many on this forum have tried, Radio Streaming), Gmail (email), Filelock (hides/locks files), NAV4ALL (navigation), Opera Mini (browser), Sunclock (world clock), Trapster (police/camera hide-outs), viigo (Krypto has tested this and I have downloaded, RSS reader and more), TalkLock (locks the phone while on the call, many have tested), Weatherbug (weather info), Wall street Journal (financial), Windows Live and Yahoo Messenger, You Tube (video streaming) etc.
All above are OTA's, just google and you will find, email to Storm, get link and install. More and more free or pay App's, games, utilities etc are popping up everyday. If you download and install for your Storm, please list these on this forum.
Have fun

Has anyone tried downloading Tiltris off Getjar site using wap.getjar.com using code??
I did try but failed, errors. Not sure why?? Default WAP browser is set to Telus. Talked to Telus and they cannot figured out except maybe be link is bad. I will contact Getjar.
I know that people have downloaded this free game as I have read reviews.
Any other way I can download this?? Boy, is it ever frustrating not knowing why??

I downloaded Tiltris onto my phone with no problems. Gotta learn how to play it properly though! So far the first level is doing a good enough job of killing me... But don't use the Telus WAP browser for it, use the Blackberry browser for all application downloading - that's the likely reason it won't download.

Cleared cache, cookies as always and cleared "push content", reconnected, received an error however chose Menu >>>> Refresh (as you would on a PC). This removed/cleared the error and clean handshake was able to connect and downloaded Tiltris.
I believe the error was stuck and wasn't letting me past till a refresh.
Thanks for your input, Krypto.

I just thought I'd let everyone know that Viigo has now gone from the Alpha version to a Beta version with more functionality. To install it, first uninstall the Viigo application on your phone, then go to Viigo's website and download the new version.
Enjoy!
