Cell Phone Warranty

I bought a Lg Keybo in september of 2008 with a 3 year PSP extended warranty.  Last week I took my phone in for warranty because the memory card slot was not working.  They exchanged my phone but I was told that I no longer had a warranty on my phone because the system had changed over to PEP warranties and that if I wanted warranty on my exchanged phone I would need to sign up for the new warranty system and pay $5 per month.  I am wondering where the rest of my 3 year PSP warranty on my phone went? I was not under the impression that if I took my phone in for warranty that I would negate the rest of my warranty.  Could someone please explain this? Thanks.

Re: Cell Phone Warranty

It sounds like they replaced your phone with a new one.  In the case of a product replacement, rather than a repair, the PSP is 'used up', so to speak.  This is true with all products sold at Futureshop.  The PEP is a different program in that you can have your phone replaced as many times as needed for the entire duration of the term and it's never 'used up'.  It's a much better plan overall.

Re: Cell Phone Warranty

if $10 a month is a rip? then suggest what is a better solution?..... No downtime over the counter exchange with the latest model on an $700 iphone (for $360 over 3 years) sounds pretty good from my perspective.... what if I have to use it twice?... hmm, $1400 in phones for $360...... my plan costs me $2160 over 3 years + $200 up front hardware cost .... $360 PEP its only 6.5% of my overall expense / investment over 3 years...

I guess it depends if you needed to make a lot of claims in the past and what was covered.  For myself... would warranties cover my problems like dropping, water, theft, or volcanoes?

If not, you might want to skip it. I waited a month to see if my new 9700 had an manufacturing problems. After the 9700 was problem free for a month, I voided the warranty with a ColorWare body kit. At least now I'm less likely to lose it on a dark sofa or table.  A more common problem that wouldn't be covered by a warranty.

It's not just pink..... metallic and pearl to sparkle in the sunlight!

Are you thinking of making it a Future Shop exclusive to increase sales?

How about people drop/lose their phones more often :smileytongue:? and how about my phone doesn't get defects? XD. I'm asian, so these warranty things are never worth their money :smileywink: But I do know one person that just always have all their phones implode on them.... which makes it a good deal.

I know you're staff and get a discount on that PEP, which makes it a STEAL.

Re: Cell Phone Warranty

Here's an example of why I no longer own a black phone....

Is this covered under warranty?  Even the manufacturer denies it exists.
