The cost for all that seems fairly reasonable.  Hopefully being an early adopter doesn't come back to bite you later.  But I'm sure that RIM made certain that the quality was there because this was a hghly anticipated product.

I picked up my Storm Christmas Eve and love it. I wanted an iPhone so I called Telus to get out of my Blackberry contract that I had for 11 months on a 3 year term. We talked and I ended up going in and upgrading for $249 for 3 years so that couldn't be beat!.

Blkberry Storm

Which Telus Store did you end up getting one? Am on a waiting list at Edmonton Cellular westend!

How's your experience being so far? I presume you had another blkberry model??

How's your touch keyboard experience? I currently use 8703 (enterprise, work) data only, so am used to hard keyboard. Thats the only issue at this point I am concerned though the storm will be for personal use.

I bet the keyboard be it portrait or landscape mode is a learning curve.

Hope you put your thoughts/experience on the forum. Am waiting mine, will probably visit the Telus at WEM, was told they were schedule to receive 150 by new year.

I got mine at Telus in Fredericton, NB. I love it so far, but I did come from a blackberry pearl. I like typing in the portrait mode better i think, I am used to the suretype and how that works, and like how there is more screen showing when your typing insted of 3/4 of the screen being a keypad in landscape. The biggest thing I find is how slow it can be, especially while typing, I can type and type and it's always playing catch up. I'm sure there will be a new OS released soon to fix that. I really like it though, it's a lot the same, but so very different. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I think I am going to return mine to telus and pick one up at future shop and get the service plan on it, because it does seem a bit fragile. I'm just hoping I am able to do it.

Third Party Applications

Hi, Krypto. You seem pretty knowledgeable, may be you can help me out.

Picked up my Storm just after Christmas, pretty exciting. Trying to personalize it now.

1. What settings do I need to change to install third party applications? I tried to download and asked for permission. Trying to download an application that will randomly change wall paper every so often from Toysoft.ca and it wouldn't.

2. Am hoping to install a clearcoat on the touch screen. Will this be a problem presuming the touch screen works on finger pressure not heat?

Good places to download be it themes, wallpaper etc. Did google but not seeing very much for storm yet.

Hey zimer, that's great!  I hope you have as much fun with it as me.  Regarding your questions:

1.  You don't need to change any settings to install third party applications (I installed Google Maps and Viigo no problem), and you don't need to change the permission settings unless you want to restrict any specific access.  I haven't tried installing Visual Arts v1.1.1 on my phone, but I'm assuming you went to the link on their site using your phone right?  This one does not give a simple option for downloading via the computer.  If that's the way you tried it, my suggestion is to contact their support email address and they might be better able to help.

2.  Regarding installing a clearcoat, I installed an Invisible Shield on mine and it works just fine.  Assuming yours is similar to that, you should have no problem.

3.  Programs, themes and the such are still pretty limited, but it seems like crackberry.com is one of the better places to go for these things.  BPlay is the main applications site.  Anyhow, those are the places I'd look!

[ Edited ]

I had the same clearcoat put in, looks good. I am enjoying the storm, now trying to personalize it as best as I can to suit my life style.

As far as the Visual Arts, they sent me an email to by storm, I hi-lighted the link, menu key, get link and then error popped I think it said no permission error 403 or something like that. I will investigate further. Though it showed .jad as an extension file. Was planning on Google maps too. Stopped by Chapters today and some time this month "Dummies for Storm" is due out. Wouldn't mind looking at it for tips and tricks or other hacks may be??

I will keep an eye on several dedicated sites including Bberry com, crackberry etc.. hoping new Storm apps show up. I did see "media sync" at Bberry.com for PC/Mac that syncs itunes into (competitor). probably easier to transfer music in to the mini sd card.

Please do post any new apps be it entertainment, productivity or any "tips", tricks, hacks etc.... I will check this site for further development on Storm as more people have it.

I'll keep things posted on here.  Apparently there's a new revision of the OS (4.7.0.85) that is now available as a beta for people to try, and apparently it's looking pretty good, so I'm expecting a new OS update shortly.  I'll post some thoughts once that's out (the only catch right now is that I don't have my computer cable anymore as it was stolen, so I have to wait until I track down a new one (already on it)).

I'm going to be focussing primarily on the free stuff for now, but might purchase a couple of applications later.  We'll see.

And if you do get your program working, let us know what the problem was :smileyhappy:.

OS Storm

I presume the new OS is in it's beta stage. Will await after hearing more about it on this site. Always reluctant to install right out of the gate.

After I purchased my Storm, received IM from Telus about their new site dedicated to Storm. It's supposed to have user guides, tip&tricks, desktop and other software update. The telusmobility.com/supportcentre address comes up blank on both my PC's and my Mac not sure why? Emailed Telus to look into. Tried to connect on my storm since the link was sent on the storm. Did manage to connect chose my province and don't see buttons to continue and no images show up. Not sure why this is happening. Does anybody have this problem OR is it me!! Emailed Telus since no experience tech available at dealers.

I believe its very likely some settings are not setup properly since Telus was in a rush to get them delivered to its Dealer network after Christmas. Would someone compare my settings as they exist on my storm if I had to put them on this site. Just wanna make sure they are correct. Under Options, security, firewall, browser, browser push, GPS, Maps etc. I will list them if someone is willing to compare. I also have had a problem (not every time) downloading such as from Crackberry "Hockey night in Canada" ringtone, sent a link to my storm but didn't install, same as viigo, didn't install.

Hey, Krypto, did you have any luck on installing on viigo?? I'II have to list the error message next time.

If someone out there is willing to look at my settings, I will on my next message list them down, not sure if Telus will call after my email but it sure sounds like my settings maybe out.
