After playing around a bit, I decided to try the most recently leaked 9530 OS (4.7.0.86). After having it on my phone for a day, here are my quick conclusions:
Pros:
- Much much faster, and smoother than the current OS (4.7.0.76)
- The accelerometer is much more responsive and is actually quite good!
- Scrolling is now much faster!

Cons:
- Had issues after doing hard resets, in many cases, I had to pull the battery again to get the phone to work (the problem was the phone froze with the message "A media card is inserted" on it).
- Some aspects are a bit jumpy... I found that when playing games, it had a hard time keeping play smooth while it was checking the network.
Neither pro nor con:
- When using speed dial, the new version quickly made the touch tone sounds for the number (confirms that the call is being sent, but it is on speakerphone, so it can be annoying if you're in public)
Anyhow, those are some quick points from my short experimental period. From this, I figure it'll still be a bit before the next official version is released, but I do expect the next OS to give a significant improvement over the current OS and make these phones much more like how we all envision them to be!
I have gone back to the original OS as it has a few less bugs, but the new OS is definitely showing a lot more potential.

I did finally managed to find a 16gb micro sd card through (competitor) as not much help available from Sandisk US. Several internet vendors listed at $66 to $99 US $$. Sandisk canada was not much as not listed on their site.
At (competitor), a canadian vendor from BC listed at $89 Can $$ included a sandisk micro sd card and adapter and usb reader. Plugged it in and media memory now reads 14.8gb free, I suppose some hidden files took some room over a 1gb??
Now question I need to figure out how to save Apps etc to media card. having looked at help files, only mentions about video, ringtones, pics and music. Though Download, App, games folders do exist, I don't think any settings allow to set at default to allow downloads to go to media card.
Has anybody figured out how to download app, games to media card as opposed system memory??

Having checked several forums sites, am glad I am not the only one. I seem to be missing every other call, having shorten the "vibrate" to short so as to get a extra ring but seems that the rings are very short and by the time I get to it,voice mail picks it up or a missed a call.
Am I missing any settings?? I chose the classic ring setting at 9 so I can hear as I do at times work around people and to give me enough time to get to it. When I checked other sites, several other storm users seem to be complaining about the same issue. Any Storm hacks that can help resolve this??
At times its very irritating
as every other call is a missed call or goes to voice mail.
Any suggestions???

I thought i would add another new update which was recently released for the Blackberry Storm. There is now a new update ,v4.7.0.90, available for download. I decided i would give it a try and see how it works as i had been using .85 and it seemed to work really well. This is one that many of the forums claim to be the closest to being an actuall official upgrade. So i'll start with some of the pro's.
Pro's:
-the biggest change to be noticed is the inclusion of a full QWERTY keyboard in the portrait mode, not just landscape as the previous versions used. Which is nice as when typing in uncommon words like last names you no longer have to switch between portrait
-Again the accelerometer seems to be responding very fast and works great now.
-rendering of websites when you zoom in seems to be improved which is definately nice.
Now for some of the cons
-the OS seems to be a bit more buggy for me than the previous .85
-Ive had a couple occasions where the keyboard will lag up when replying to a msg, and wont show up properly for a little bit.
-There has been a few occasions now where ive had to do a battery pull because the phone just starts getting slower and slower, and wont even open things like the task manager
-Ive also heard of a few bugs with the camera but i havent experienced them myself.
-The last isnt so much a bug as a "fit and finish" kinda thing, when using the full qwerty keyboard in the portrait view the button which shows "!?123" doesnt have all the text fit onto the button, it kind of overlaps into the space between buttons.
Overall it seems like blackberry is definately working on things and probably using the reviews to work on things. This os is definately a step in the right direction, but because of the problems i have had with it i may downgrade back to .85, although im sure there will be another update within a week or so. Im sure blackberry uses the "leaked" updates as a way of beta testing their upgrades, and with anything that hasnt offically been released always be careful as you could cause problems with your phone.
And as for your problem zimer there is a possible fix depending on what area of the country you are in. I know telus out here supports a feature which allows you to extend the amount of rings before your voicemail picks up. But it is only available in western canada as their switches and everything out east dont support that ability. What you do is dial *94+(the number of rings you want), i believe the default is 4 rings and you can set it up to 9. So say you wanted 6 rings you would just dial *946 and send, when it connects it should just hang up the call and it should be changed. I just tried it on my phone to confirm and it worked for me on my telus phone.

Hi all,
So i asked Krypto a question yesterday about if you could send picture text messages and Krypto wasn't sure and figured you could, so anyway i called Telus and got the answer to one of the many questions i've had over buying the BlackBerry Storm and the answer was No you cannot send picture text messages at this time and Telus wasn't sure if it'd be an update in the future that would allow BlackBerry Storm users to send picture text messages to PCS users.
So i'm very glad i found this forum and its been very helpful so far in helping me make up my mind on weather to buy the BlackBerry Storm or to hold off a whiel longer. But my question is does anyone have anything they don't like about the storm? like how is the touch screen typing with the newer OS updates?

Hey again opaco! Just thought I'd update my PM to you regarding the keyboard (I was typing that on my Storm and had to rush as I was needed elsewhere). When I tried out OS version 4.7.0.86, I noticed the keyboard was actually a bit faster than on the current .76, and from what I heard about .90, things were positive there (supposedly the keys were actually a hint larger). .99 has gone back to the same size as .86 and .76, but supposedly works nicely for typing.
The only times I noticed that there can be a problem is when the phone is trying to do too much at once (I often type faster than the phone can keep up, so it occasionally has to catch up to me), or when the phone is checking/receiving messages. And occasionally, I knock myself out of the text box and start scrolling, which can be a tad annoying when you're trying to type a message. Other than that, so far so good. And be aware that if you aren't happy with the speed and sensitivity, you can adjust them... I tried that and noticed a decent improvement (much faster, fewer mistakes - just take a look around for instructions on the best settings, or if you like, let me know and I can post them on here (assuming I find them again).
As a FYI (and this is for everyone), supposedly OS version 4.7.0.100 will be an official release, and seeing as we're already at .99, RIM should have it ready to go shortly. It may take longer for the carriers to make it official on their sites, but... ![]()

Alright thats perfect, i'm sure i won't be real fast on it to begin with since it'll be totally new to me, but its nice to know that the new OS updates are helping make it faster and easier to use. Thanks again Krypto for answering my questions, since its never easy when buying a new phone espically going from a Digital PCS phone to a BlackBerry. Plus i'm sure i'll have many more questions when i actually have the phone in my hand and i'm trying to install stuff on it ![]()
So what does the new OS update 4.7.0.100 do for the phone? is it all on the crackberry website?

I know how you're feeling... I went from a Razr to the Storm... Big leap!
Since .100 isn't out yet, no one knows for sure exactly what's going to be on it, but feel free to check out the comments on .99 for help. There are still bugs with .99 but that's because they're still trying out things. Most people seem to be enjoying it though, so that's a good thing!
