Re: can I buy a cellphone without using a carrier

No. It isn't possible to do that. Future Shop only sells their cellular devices to be hooked up onto their designated carriers. I often get the question "can I hook this Koodo phone up on my Sasktel plan?" the answer is of course, no. Each provider puts special programming in their phones so it is not possible for that to happen. Each provider's phones are activated differently as well. Different lock codes etc. I hope that answered your question!! Have a great day!!

Re: can I buy a cellphone without using a carrier

One more thing!! I have answered this question about 1,000,000 times already, the iPhone for Telus. Telus customers travelling through Saskatchewan be warned. The new and very cool network that Telus is putting all their new phones under (HSPA) or High Speed Personal Access is not available everywhere!! If you have an iPhone, Omnia 2, Milestone, Hero, etc. You will get 0% coverage once you hit the Saskatchewan boarder!! Reason. All the CDMA cellular towers in Saskatchewan need to be upgraded to this new network. This is scheduled to be finished at the end of this year. Until then, sorry...no service just yet! :smileysad: So this also means if you are a Telus customer and you want to upgrade to the iPhone and you live in Saskatchewan, you cannot buy a Telus iPhone in Alberta and travel back to Saskatchewan and use it. One of our customers did that with a Telus (competitor) Bold....yeah. Be patient!! Saskatchewan Future Shop workers want to sell these cool phones as well! We just have to wait 'til those towers get worked on!
