Accepting Solutions as a Trusted Expert

Our Community has been using Accepted Solutions and Kudos for about 6 months now.  There's been hundreds of solutions marked as accepted and thousands of Kudos handed out - that's a whole lot of positive vibes floating around the Community!

As previously announced, all members who have achieved the rank of Trusted Expert or above also qualify for the right to mark their peers' answers as Accepted Solutions (even if they aren't the author).  The Community Ambassadors and I came up with a couple of helpful tips for when to mark a solution as accepted and when to give it a kudos, and as more members join the higher ranks, we thought it would be timely to share them with everyone:

Timing: give the question-asker enough time to come back and comment on the potential solution as there could be more to the story than what was initially posted, so give them the chance to review the answer and post a follow-up if necessary.  If you think someone's given a good answer, give them a kudo, if no one comes back to follow up, or the user thanks them for their advice, then go ahead and mark it as accepted.

Accepting answers that you authored as the solution: Unless you also authored the question and found the answer yourself, it's probably best to not mark your own answer as the solution.  Chances are that one of your fellow-experts will do it for you :smileywink:

These aren't meant to be hard rules, just some gentle guidelines.  If you have anything to add, please leave it in the comments below.  And if your not sure what Accepted Solutions or Kudos are, check out the links.
