Add a product to a post: cool new feature!

by Administrator ‎03-16-2012 11:13 AM - edited ‎03-16-2012 11:13 AM

You know when you’re writing a thread or replying to post and you want to link to a product so people know what you’re talking about? Then you have to open another tab, go to futureshop.ca, navigate to the product then come back to the community and post it… exhausting, right? Well, no more! Starting today you can add a product to your post straight from the text editor. Magic, I know. Let me show you how it works:

Click add product:

Search for the product you want to add:

Click add to post:

And it will show in your post like this:

When you post the article, it will show like this:

People can click on the title to go to the product page, or go straight to the reviews, or even add it to their cart on futureshop.ca

I did a test and quickly found some bugs....

  • button does not work with Internet Explorer 9 - 64 bit
  • button does not work with Internet Explorer 9 - 32 bit
  • button does work with Firefox 10
  • button does not work editing a post with Firefox 10

I tested this with post http://community.futureshop.ca/t5/Computer-Laptop-Accessories/I-m-looking-to-buy-a-printer-thinking-...

I also want to add...

Thanks for the feedback XL- i've passed this along to be investigated.

As for the search results, I agree - being able to "sort" or "filter" the results other than just through the category you're searching in would be helpful and is something I've already requested.  For the URL, you mean be able to search for the product, then select whether you want to display the URL or the complete product summary?

No... For the URL, I want to paste the URL instead of the hassle of searching for it. The Add product search is not as "rich" as the website. For example the website includes wizards. Being able to paste the URL instead of using the search is quicker and less frustrating.

You can still paste the URL if you'd rather do that, but you have to go to the website to get it. :smileywink:
