Earth Day 2009, technology and YOU

   Earth Day 2009 - April 22

I’m sure most of us remember traipsing through some muddy forest whilst clutching a seedling, digging a hole, planting the tree and vowing to return periodically to check up on it’s progress only to realize some time later that you have no idea which tree is yours because there’s a forest full of them… In case that memory is now vague, this was all done to celebrate Earth Day.  And now, more than ever, we should be thinking about how our everyday habits are impacting the world around us.

As avid consumers of electronics (and therefore electricity) there are plenty of ways to use the full 24 hours of Earth Day in a positive way:

-    walk or bike to work or school
-    pick up litter (and don’t litter yourself!)
-    reduce, reuse, RECYCLE! (containers and electronics)
-    use energy efficient products
-    turn off the lights, tv, radio when you’re not using them

-    plant a tree (still a good option!)

In honour of Earth Day, Future Shop didn’t print a flyer for April 17 – 23 (it can still be viewed online).  For more information about Earth Day and Future Shop, click here, or to learn more about what’s going on in your community, click here.

So, how will you be celebrating Earth Day 2009?

My family will not necessarily be celebrating today, but I did decide we would start composting this week and finally go drop off our old electronics to be recycled!

We try to be green all year round: 3R's, air dry clothes as much as possible, buy local produces, grow our own fruits and veggies, bike and walk, so on and so forth.

As Laura mentionned, Earth Day is a great occasion to review and change our everyday habits.

Check out http://www.onemillionactsofgreen.com for even more ideas, home projects, events in your community, etc.

You can also track your acts of green and see how Canada is helping make a difference. :smileyhappy:
