Soooo, what’s new? New hair cut? Yeah, it looks great! Me? Oh, you know, not much, just launching a totally new look for the Community! And I couldn’t be more excited. This is just the beginning of all the awesome changes coming our way. A lot has changed since we launched this Community way back in June 2007, and there’s been some updating, some finessing, over the years, but this is by far our biggest leap on the path of evolution yet! New features, like blogs, twitter, facebook, have kind of just been stitched on to the platform that was in existence since launch, but this new iteration is setting us up for much smoother integrations of different aspects of our community.

So what exactly is different?
Nomenclature (whoa big word for me!)
What is “Tech Yeah”? For that matter, what is “Tech Talk”? Let me explain.
Tech Yeah is the Future Shop Community. Tech Yeah is more than just an expression, it's a way of life. Technology does make your life better. It's there to wake you in the morning, to speed your trip to work, school, or play, to remind you where you need to be and to show you how to get there. It's the invisible line that connects you to everyone you know, and it's the memories you want to make so that the good times last longer than they ever have before.
Our community forum, our blogs, everything in our social platform makes that possible. Tech Yeah is the hammer we use to break down the walls between our customers and what they want to do. It's the sword they use to slay the dragon of confusing manuals and mysterious features. Together, as an army of connected users we unite and cry "TECH YEAH!"
“Tech Talk” refers to our forums. It’s where you go to talk about tech. We used to call them the forums, or discussion boards, but this way has a little more pizzazz. It’s ok, we won’t filter out the term “forum”, you can still use it.
This is the same. It’s a blog about tech. It will continue to be awesome!
Formerly known as “Brand Talk” - A blog where industry insiders from your favourite companies and come to share their thoughts about the world of consumer electronics and technology.
This might be new to some of you, but it’s actually been around for a while. Every week, our Future Shop writer drums up an article on a new product or technology. The articles are super informative and we wanted to share them with everyone, so let’s welcome this new program to the Tech Yeah family.
Look
I’ve referred to past redesigns we’ve done as “make-overs” and “facelifts”, but I don’t feel like those terms do this change justice. It’s more like a renovation, we kept the parts that worked, improved parts that needed work, reinforced the foundation and slapped on a fresh coat of paint.
Navigation
Probably the biggest change is the header. We’ve implemented the same global header as the Futureshop.ca website, so you can navigate back and forth more easily and it's not as disjointed. Sub-navigation is now below the main header, you can browse by type of content (forum / blogs / tech spotlight) or by category (home theatre, musical instruments, etc).
It’s a pretty big change, and I know that change can sometimes be scary and make you yearn for simpler times, but the whole goal of this process was to make everything easier and more cohesive. If it’s not doing that, tell me – either post a comment here, or send me a Private Message. At its heart, it’s still the same community – same people, same discussions, same enthusiasm – but now we have a name: Tech Yeah!
