I need to amplify my wifi signal so that we can pick up the signal in the yard on our laptop. I was told about a booster that you plug into the wall outside, who has this available?

You have a couple of options:

1.  You can use an aftermarket antenna that boost the power of the signal.

2.  If your house is really big, you can use a set of powerline adapters that transmits the ethernet signal via hydro wires.  You will be connecting as a wired signal, extended by your household AC outlets.

These are common options, another is to use option 2 and have multiple routers/access points one at each end of the powerline adapter connector.  Then you'd have wireless at each edge of your house, rather than in the middle, and thus more coverage.
