IS it necessary to use 110 to 220 V converter when using computer for extended time in Europe

Look at the specs on the back of the power brick.... if you see 220 or 240.... then no.... all you may need is a plug adapter and skip the converter.

 

I just came back from Asia (similar 240v) and all I needed was an adapter.  I was making HD videos and left the laptop rendering overnight.

 

One tip I'll share with you is getting a universal Power Bar.  Older hotels may not have enough places to charge a laptop, camera, GPS and other electronic creature comforts at the same time.

 

Airports can't get enough power outlets for everyone.  Having a "universal" powerbar is really handy to share the power.
