LGear / LGgear USB drive (4GB)

I just bought one of these, thinking it was an LG product. Granted, I'm a sucker for not researching this more, but.. what is this piece of crap? The website listed on the package (www.lggear.com) is registered, but there's nothing there. So, is it just some random company stealing LG's name? Why is Future Shop selling these things? I've since read of many people having them die within weeks!

It is confusing to some but LGear (L-Gear) is not LG. The name and logo are not the same. Future Shop tries to cater to different people on different budgets. There are high end brand names and no-names out there. There are many instances where a no-name (or lesser known name) products are made by the same companies as the high end stuff and just rebranded and just as good. However, when it comes to data storage, I don't recommend going cheap. Pay the extra money for brands that you trust as data can be really important. Many times Future Shop has the high end stuff on sale for dirt cheap anyway. Watch the flyers!

Re: LGear / LGgear USB drive (4GB)

This flash drive is supposed to be a 4 GB Flash Drive but it's not true, it's only 3 GB when I look in my computer.  Where is the missing 1 GB? I don't know...  Any how my flash drive is dead now and I've been using it about only 2 months.

This garbage was been selling at Future Shop!  Shame on you! And this company LGEAR, lggear doesn't exist! :smileymad:

Re: LGear / LGgear USB drive (4GB)

The discussion of size difference between advertised values and actual usable space is an old one.  But to give the short version, it's a combination of differences in how numbers are calculated by a computer and humans, as well as the drive itself requiring some of the space for other purposes such as formatting information.

As for who makes LGear products, that would be ValGear
