Looking for an inexpensive scanner with a transparency adapter that can scan dental panoramic film.

How would a transparency adapter make a difference in the actual scan?  Doesn't it just hold the transparency down just like a negative adapter?

Have had several typical scanners and they do not properly scan dental films.  Our tech reps have said a transparency adapter is needed to "back" the film so the "scan" doesn't bounce through.  Does that make sense? Not sure how to explain it.

It sounds like you might have to check at a specialty dental supply store for something like that

You will need a transparency adapter which is a specialized piece of hardware that emits light behind your transparency so that your flatbed scanner can properly scan it.

Alternatively, you will need a film scanner.
