Gateway FX6801-09h issue

[ Edited ]

I have been experiencing an issue with my Gateway FX6801-09h. I purchased it in July and I didn't have this issue when I first got it. What happens is sometimes when I try to alt-tab, it occasionally doesn't work properly (it cycles non-stop through the available windows). It also impacts my volume controls in that it puts it to 100% or 0% and if I try to adjust it, it automatically goes back to the top or the bottom (wherever it was).

I have noticed that if I put the computer to sleep, it fixes the issue. The issue occurs while I am playing a video game, but it also occurs when the computer is left idling.

I have done a clean install because my first thought was a virus. The issue reoccured after install though. Also, I have updated the necessary drivers that the issue has impacted. I am at wits end as to what it could be that is causing the issue.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

(If you need more information regarding the specs of my computer, you can ask in a post and I will try to reply as soon as I can.)

Re: Gateway FX6801-09h issue

Have you tried a different keyboard?  I'm wondering if something is sticking or simply remaining in the on position, causing this (then, when you click it again, it resets the connection).  If reformatting the computer didn't help, I doubt its the software, so that leaves the hardware and the most logical place to start would be the keyboard.  If you don't have a spare keyboard and don't want to go out and buy one, borrow one for a day or so.  See if the problem happens when you'd expect it.  If not, and if the keyboard is the original one you got from Gateway, you can call them for support and they can send you a new keyboard, or you can go out and buy a better one at that point in time.

If exchanging the keyboard with a different one doesn't help, let us know and we can try looking at some other reasons.

Hi Krypto, thanks for the reply.

I have swapped out for a different keyboard, but I still experience the problem. Could it possibly have something to do with the drivers for the keyboard?
