HP dv2412ca - Upgrade RAM

I have an HP dv2412ca laptop comes with 2x512 RAM that I want to upgrade it to 2x1G. It seems like i just need to open the bottom and replace 2 current DIM with 2 new one? 'Cause i see a small cover in the middle of the bottom with 2 icons looks like RAM. Will the upgrade just simple like that?

BTW, is the hard drive for this model is an SATA? When i first installed XP, windows display the name of this hard drive as SCSI. But when I installed the nForce driver, it then display the hard drive as an IDE device.

Yes, replacing RAM is simple as unscrewing the cover, popping the old sticks out, popping the new sticks in, and screwing the cover back on. Be sure to pick up DDR2 memory, as that's what the laptop supports.

Also, your hard drive is, indeed, a SATA drive.

I have 1 more question: I ran CPU-Z, and it reported that my RAM is PC2-5300 RAM. Is it DDR2 667Mz and 200 SODIM RAM?

I have 1 more question: I ran CPU-Z, and it reported that my RAM is PC2-5300 RAM. Is it DDR2 667Mz SODIMM RAM, and has 240 pin? I searched and saw some 667Mz comes with 240 pin, while some others comes with 200 pin. Which one (200 or 240 pin) will fit my laptop?

PC2-5300 RAM and DDR2-667 RAM are the same. DDR2 memory for laptops, SODIMMs, use 200 pins, while DDR2 memory for desktops, simply DIMMs, use 240 pins.

Re: HP dv2412ca - Upgrade RAM

On your Mac, click the Apple logo up at the top left corner of the screen, then 'About This Mac,' the first option in the Apple menu. This will not only show you how much memory you've got in your computer right now, but what type of memory it will take (whether DDR2 or DDR3) and what speed the memory runs at (whether it's 800mHz, 1333mHz, or something else altogether.)

You will need to match the type of memory your Mac takes -- if it uses DDR2 memory, you will not be able to use DDR3 memory, and vice versa. Your best bet is to match the speed, too -- faster RAM will slow itself down to work with your machine, but will be more expensive than necessary. Slower RAM will slow everything down, so using it is not advisable. So, ultimately, match the RAM that your Mac reports it is using.
