Hi, I would like to buy memory cards to upgrade my laptop, which has windows 32-bit. However, the ones I found (Web Code: 10152543) are: A kit of two 256M x 64-bit 2GB DDR2-667 CL4 SDRAM memory modules. So, what is the 64-bit here? does it have to match

compatibility of RAMs

Hi,

Is anyone able to reply to my questions regarding the compatibility of the new RAMs?

FYI, the old RAMs are: 2x DDR2 Qimonda 512MB 2Rx16 PC2-5300S-555-12-A0

The new ones are "A kit of two 256M x 64-bit 2GB (2048MB) DDR2-667 CL4 SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) memory modules, based on sixteen 128M x 8-bit DDR2 FBGA components (per module). Each pair has been tested to run at DDR2 667MHz at low latency timing of 4-4-4-12 at 1.8V"

1) What does the "64-bit" mean in the description of the new RAMs? considering my system runs on 32-bit.

2) The latency of the originial RAMs are 5-5-5-12. The new RAMs have 4-4-4-12. Do I need to adjust the timing manually to make the new RAMs work more efficiently? If so, how to do it?

Thanks a lot for your answers!

Re: compatibility of RAMs

Hi Ana,

1 - Speaks to architecture.  Since 64 bit can operate at 32 bit (the reverse would not be true) the issue is moot for your purposes.

2 - Not in my epxerience. Everything should be handled automatically by the hardware and the bios.

Hope that helps :smileyhappy:
