Moblin is based on a Linux kernel, I'm not sure for Windows based application support.  I know through Linux you can emulate Windows based applications but not sure where that will end up.  Your next best options if you want to use a Microsoft application is that there's an Office Live (Office on a cloud) application that you could use.  Another option is Google Docs (which I use periodically), it's works like a charm.  And most of your fundamental stuff is integrated.

What's unique about Mobiln from my limited experience with it is that it's really optimized for the netbook to be a great companion PC, as long as you're connected, you're in touch with your social networks, get quick information through the web and hold your calendar, etc. Netbooks were always designed to be a companion product to your full-featured Notebook or Desktop. Our goal with Atom was to really enable the creation of incredibly innovative devices.  I think Netbooks are just skimming the surface here!

No doubt Office 2007 (most notably Word 2007) is so awesome, familiar and easy to use.  I wouldn't want to have to use anything else.....hmm, I wonder how microsoft can improve on it with Office 2010?

I stopped using Office after 2006 came out, it was just the most horrid thing ever, it was when Microsoft was going through the Vista transition phase though. I prefer alternatives anyway, what I use is open sourced software and I find runs smoother on netbooks, plus I get Java support and browser plug-in features. I may try 2010 on my netbook but I am not banking on it running too well.

I can see how Office 2007 might chug on netbooks.  Even my 3-yr old laptop has a wee bit of trouble sometimes.  I hope Office 2010 will rectify this.  I'm not sure if netbooks are really meant to do a lot of typing anyways with their small keyboards.

So you try alternatives.  Have you tried tapping the cloud with Google Docs?

No I haven't, not really a fan of Google's applications to be honest but I hear good things about the Chrome OS, I tried the browser and disliked it. I am running OpenOffice on my MSI Wind U120 and it runs smooth as butter, it was either that or try and locate my old Office XP CD but I wanted updated features. OpenOffice still looks a lot like older versions of Microsoft Office though, however that makes it more suitable for netbooks as I have found even visual enhancements cause programs to run much slower, hence why I still use Windows XP and some older Microsoft software.

The one thing i found really saddening about google chrom is that they didn't even make a google toolbar to work with their own browser! How can GOOGLE'S browser not have GOOGLE toolbar???

LOL, I love my Google toolbar in IE.  Major oversight on their part to neglect this simple yet effective tool.

I love Office 2007!

As for the original post, thank you Morfanos! Very interesting but at the same time a bit depressing as I have a Q8200 and I compared it to a Q6200. Wish I would have seen this a month ago.

You probably meant Q6600 and not Q6200 as there is no such thing as a Q6200:smileytongue:.

Why is it depressing? The Core 2 Quad Q6600 is still is more expensive compared to the Q8200. Sure, it's faster most of the time but for most user, a Q8200 is more than capable. Beside, we all know that the real reason to own a Q6600 is to overclock it:smileyvery-happy:.

Until next time,

Can anyone explain why when I run a System Requirements L...

Can anyone explain why when I run a System Requirements Lab test on games, it says that the Atom is running two processors at the same time. I know there will soon be dual core netbooks in a couple of months, but I was under the impression that the current Atom's are just single core.

Yes and no...

Yes all current NETBOOK Atom are single core.

No, as the NETTOP (think desktop) Atom 330 is dual core.

Usually, the best way to find information about your processor (and most of your system) is by using CPU-Z.
