Upgrading a processor can be a very tricky task, although it may appear simple.

Knowledge is your best weapon, do your research, know the motherboard specs, know what processor it can handle etc.

i agree research is your best bet, make sure to know what your current motherboard supports as well make sure to always apply thermal paste unless the cpu comes with a heatsink with thermal paste already applied.
