I ordered the mini laptop on line future shop. I cannot locate the product key for windows 7. how would I know where they chose to place it out of several that were mentioned

The product key of Windows 7 that comes equipped with a laptop or netbook are usually labelled on the bottom of the device.  It is not typically needed unless you perform a reinstall from scratch.

Even when reinstalling current models of computers from scratch, you would typically use Recovery Disks, which does that step for you, you do not need the product key unless you are trying to use a generic Windows 7 OS disk, which is much more work because you then have to manually download and install driver and software after windows is installed, and you might not have internet capabilities until the drivers are installed.
