I have just purchased a GoPro 2 and my current laptop will not run the footage

What are the minmum requirements for a laptop to edit and run 1080 hd footage

There is not really a minimum requirement. But to do it properly you will want something with a fast processor, lots of ram and a dedicated video card. What are the specs you are running now?

Unless you are trying to run a specific program, then the minimum specs should be listed on the box or at the product website.

Hmm...

• what specs are your computer?  What RAM? What processor?  if a laptop... what model?
• what software are you trying to view the footage?  what software are you trying to use to edit the footage?
• a common issue is not the computer, but the codec not being available.

My current laptop is 4 years old so I'm looking to upgrade to a new one.

Software will be something like vegas 7 I'm thinking.

The camera says it needs the following

3.2 ghz

direct x 9

video card 128mb ram

2gb system ram

I need a link to a couple of examples as I have no computer knowledge

Haven't used Vegas, but which version are you interested in?  Some Vegas versions are $600!  Here's the entry product that lists system requirements...

BTW.... I like Pinnacle Studio for video editing.

• Look for a laptop with a larger screen.  Video editing is easier with a large screen to show all your timeline.
• Look for a laptop quad core for quicker renders
• Look for a laptop with 7200rpm drives for best performance.
