I'm looking to buy a laptop and quite honestly don't know too much about computers. I checked out the buyers guide and don't think I fall into those categories. I will be using it for traveling. I want to be able to use the internet, email, upload photos, making a website, writing articles, storing music files. I am on a tight budget looking to spend no more than $500. I would like it to be small and portable between 11" - 15"
I have looked at the Dell Inspiron and the Gateway but I am completely open to suggestions. What programs do laptops come with? Do any come with MS office? What do you need to be able to use wireless while traveling?

Your budget limits your option consderable, but it sounds like you don't need an incredible amount of computing power to do the things you want.
As a traveler you'll appreciate the smaller-screened laptops or netbooks that are small and light enough to take anywhere, with enough battery power to give you plenty of freedom.
I want to suggest this 11.6" Acer, but its currently $549.99. Its got enough power to perform your tasks smoothly, and boasts an incredible battery life. The hardware is significantly above what netbooks have to offer.
This web-only 12.1" MSI is a small step above netbook specs, and is only $399.99. I think it will still handle the tasks you intend to do, but with only half the battery life as the above laptop.
Have a look and let me know what you think
