Show us your Home Computer Setup!

Show us your Home Computer Setup!

(Updated June 10th, 2008)

Hey everyone! Well the
The Faces behind the Names Project! and Show us your Home Theatre Setup! are a big success, so we have taken another initiative to create a third type of thread based on some of the same features. This time it’s going to be about your Pc or Mac gaming rig or work setup! This thread will permit users to post pictures of their setup and let them explain and showcase what they got!

Rules:

1) It's Your System. The picture that you choose has to be the real deal. No pictures of in-store stuff or off-the-web rips.

2) Guidelines Apply. Remember that the guidelines still apply to this idea. Thus, please refrain from posting anything unlawful, libellous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, indecent, lewd, harassing, threatening, violent, racist, abusive, harmful, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, inflammatory or otherwise objectionable or injurious to third parties. Please also refrain from posting any content intended to exploit, solicit, or harm minors. Violation of this will result in removal of the picture in question, and if it gets out of hand, we'll be forced to end the project itself, so KEEP IT CLEAN!

3) Size. Try to keep it in the range of around 1024px width and 768px height. This is not a set in stone rule, and Moderators will judge if corrections need to be made to the size (we'll handle it).

4) Number of Pictures. You can put a unlimited amount of pictures but please keep in mind we don’t want to spam the forum. Don’t post every single angle of your setup. You can post a General picture of the setup and then individual pics of your setup.

5) Comments. This is a project to bring a positive vibe to the board. So feel free to comment on the pictures, but please keep any negative comments to yourselves.

How This Will Work:

You can host your pictures on sites like flickr, photobucket, facebook, etc. Some of these sites will give you the URL to copy/paste into a message and you don't have to do anything else.

To post an image:

You can also check the Community Information Center for a tutorial on how to post pictures on these forums

FIRST

As noted in the faces behind the names thread, I can't take pictures worth anything. This is the ubercomputer. Big glowy keyboard on the left, wireless mouse next to it... with the wireless adapter about three inches behind it. Logitech speakers, LG widescreen LCD monitor, oldschool NEC CRT monitor... plus an XBox 360 and a lavalamp. Because lavalamps are made of all that is good and win. Also, The Orange Box, and electronic sudoku to the right.

This is the view beneath my desk, a massive jumble of wires I'm not looking forward to sorting through, the subwoofer for my Logitech speakers, and the tower itself. The case itself is at least eight years old, as evidenced by the fact it came out long before USB ports on the front of the tower were standard. I've had to, uhh, jury rig something so that I've got a couple of ports hanging loose out of the floppy drive bay. The white cable to the left leads to my dust collector old tube TV, with a much neglected NES, Genesis, PlayStation and XBox still attached to it.

I really wish I saw this thread when it was first started (or took note of it) - I just went through two towers and salvaged the keepable parts and tossed the cases. It would have been fun making a huge mess of things and taking a picture as though it was my workstation.

I know, I used to have a pretty good setup, back when I had a desktop.  Had a great Logitech sound system, and all the extras, but it's a bit harder to simply take pictures of a laptop.  I guess I could put all my other stuff with it (i.e. my Logitech DiNovo Keyboard, my VX Nano mouse and my keypad - data entry queen!, plus my old Canon scanner and my Samsung Laser Printer, and all my external hard drives, flash drives, iPaq...).  Actually, if I do that, it starts looking like a decent collection.  Maybe I will post something.

If you think a post deserves credit, give it a thumbs up by clicking on the White Star.

My place is a mess... I'll try to explain what's in the pics to the best of my capabilities...

My main PC - just assembled. Intel C2Q Q9300 with 4GB RAM and Nvidia 9600GT running Vista Ultimate x64.
To the left: Dlink Gamefuel router and a DLT4000 tape drive
To the right: Avocent KVM switch (to share one keyboard, video and screen between multiple computers), an Iomega USB hard drive, a writing pad for handwriting Chinese characters into the computer
On top:  Dell Ultrasharp 20" widescreen LCD monitor

Not to mention a huge mess of wires...

All-in-one print/scan/fax/copy - Brother 7820N
Two servers: the red one is home built Intel server board with C2Q Q6600 with 8GB RAM (yup!), the black one is an old Dell 600SC with P4-class Celeron 2.4GHz. The power supply is blown so the one on top is the replacement.

Wires and more wires...

This one is my former main PC - a P4-class Celeron 2.6GHz with 1GB RAM. It will be stripped out and become a slimline Blu-ray player/computer for my bedroom.

My laptop PC

I really should clean up my place... :smileytongue:

This is my current setup right now. Its nothing too special, I have a 3.2Ghz P4 with 3GB ram, just over 2TB of total hard drive space, dual GeForce 8800GTs powering my 3 monitors -17", 22" and 15", and is also hooked up to my projector. The laptop is a Thinkpad R60. I have a few other pictures here.
