I've got a PC copy and PS3 copy. When I got this computer the specs on Oblivion matched what I had so I got acopy. As I got into the game I noticed big gery pyramids and purple/black-striped tiles, the game would freeze and I would go stir crazy trying to figure out what was wrong. So I gave up figuring that I'll need syper-fast computer to play this thing, I'll give it time. Then the PS3 got released adn I got a copy of Oblivion to go along with it and I've had no performance issues. Now I'm line for a new computer which means I can play it on either system.

The only debate I have now is do I want a regular 22" monitor or should I upgrade my TV to use as both a TV and computer monitor? I've heard good and bad on both sides...any suggestions? I know I'd have to settle for a 1080p LCD and my computers' video card would need an HDMI port. I'd love a plasma but I'm not too keen having to risk burn-in. I'd like to incorporate my computer into my HT, I figure why spend the $300+ on another monitor when I'm looking to upgrade my TV anyways?

Plasma's aren't prone to the burn in issues they used to have -the phosphorus levels have for the most part been perfected.

And if you are looking to use HDMI as the connection, make sure the TV you purchase is capable of PC to HDMI connections (this isn't always a given and a lot of people have gotten stuck as a result).  My recommendation would just be to look for a tv with a VGA input.  I think this is probably the easiest and simplest connection, and leaves your HDMI inputs for your DVD and Playstation systems!  Some TVs also have a DVI connection and this one should work fine as well (for that spare connection).  I'd actually be a bit more interested in what sound options your computer has (mini-jack, digital sound, etc.) and make sure that matches up with one of your options for the TV.

Thanks! I figured most of the new TVs would be PC to HDMI capable, I'll definitely keep this in mind when I go to buy.

What's the picture quality via VGA or DVI or even HDMI? Belleville had it set-up quite some time ago but I didn't pay too much attention to the detail, I thought it was a neat idea.

I wouldn't be using both the satellite and net at the same time. :smileywink:

I'm using VGA for my connection and its okay... the resolution I have to use for my connection is 800 x 600, which obviously isn't the same as the other resolutions, but it's good enough (I can actually read the text while sitting on my couch).  I've tried other resolutions, but the screen never quite fits right.  You would expect that HDMI is better, but I've heard that you still have to use 800 x 600 resolution for that connection.  While I haven't heard anything specific about DVI, I would actually expect this might have the best connection for computer to TV as you get the digital signal, and might end up with different resolution options, but again, I don't know for certain.

I also tried looking around online and haven't seen too much for DVI connections on TVs...

Another thing that seems to be a bit of a concern is burn-in.  Remember the little taskbar on the bottom of the screen?  If you are using your TV as your screen for long periods of time, it could be an issue (although less so for LCD screens than Plasma screens).

The only other thing I'll mention is that I have yet to see a TV give as good of an image as a regular LCD monitor.  The images just aren't quite as sharp, but to be honest, for movie viewing or playing games, I don't notice the difference unless I'm really looking hard!

Ultimately, I think any of these three connections would be fine for most uses.

Krypto: Thanks for the info. :smileyhappy:  If you don't mind me asking, what size is your TV and is it 1080p?

I know earlier on I stated that I wanted a plasma, but now I've decided on LCD for the computer. I've actually wondered what the difference was between a monitor and a 1080p 120hz LCD TV, I mean for all viewing (TV, computer tasks, and surfing).

Mine is a 27" Prima 1080p LCD TV.  When it comes to viewing, the biggest problem I have is that it's across the room, not like a computer monitor which is typically just a few feet away.  My TV isn't even all that far - ~7 feet (which is why I only have a 27").  Given the option, I find that monitors on a desk are the better option, but the TV is acceptable, especially if you have somewhere to park your keyboard and mouse (not an easy task at your couch).  I even tried picking up the Logitech DiNovo keyboard as it has an integrated mousepad to make it easier (the hardest part was working the mouse from the couch), but I finally went back to using a monitor at the desk.  This really has become the easiest option for me.

And as to the difference between a LCD monitor and a LCD TV as a monitor?  I think the biggest difference has to do with resolution.  The actual monitors simply give more options.  If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me, but from my perspective, that's how I see it.

Hope that helps!

Well, took some times but here is my computer setup:

Nothing to fancy here...and a lot of stuff on the desk because after all, this isn't a "girl" desk :smileywink:.
-Logitech Quickcam Communicate Deluxe sitting on my 22" LG L22WTQ (2ms, 3000:1) with an old MS Multimedia KB(I think they've stopped making that one 3 years ago or so:smileytongue:), a Logitech MX 310 mouse and on the sides, a Logitech Z-2300 speakers system. Oh and yes, a big bunch of games boxes:smileyhappy:!

The whole desk with the Case sitting next to it.

-Antec Nine Hundred case. One of the coolest case on the market(pun intended).

Better watch out for the 200mm fan on the top of the case because believe me, touching it while it's on doesn't feel good at all(and sadly, that's from experience...:smileysad:).

:smileyvery-happy:!
Sorry about those 3 last pictures but since I'm a guy, I needed to actually show the "beast" and not just my desk on which the only piece REALLY worth mentioning the my Khukuri :smileyvery-happy:!

Now I won't go into any details on what's inside the case. How about you try to find my build(no cheating:smileymad:), just by looking at it:smileywink:?
Until next time,
Morfanos
