Hi there,

Typically most laptops do not come with any sort of word processing software. I have seen some HP models that come with a year of office 365 but it's literally been like 2 models.

You can always get Open Office which is a free program with document/spreadsheet and presentation file creation capabilities. However, for the laptop you mentioned there are a few things I just want to point out.

While it will do the job, ChromeOS only allows you to get programs from the app store, in this case it will have 'quick office' and will allow you to create documents. Though I personally do not advocate for Chromebooks due to their lack of flexibility outside of Internet based tasks they are a good device for their particular purpose.

Best of luck in your search.

Open office would be a good cheap option for word documents.

Depending on your employer, see if they are part of the microsoft Home use Program, and you can get microsoft office for really cheap

  1. LIbreoffice (formally Openoffice) - open source/free
  2. Wordpad - very basic word processor - comes default with Windows
  3. Microsoft Office 2016 for Home and Student - about $150 one-time charge
  4. Microsoft Office 365 - $69/year (for one PC install) - includes 1TB of Onedrive online storage, Microsoft Access in addition to Word/Excel/Powerpoint
  5. Office Online - free with Microsoft account - you edit your files on the browser and store your files online in Onedrive; requires connecting to Internet to use
  6. Google Drive - free with Google account - store files on Google; again requires Internet access
  7. Apple iWorks - free with Apple iTunes/iCloud account - similar to #5 and #6
  8. Wordperfect (yes, this thing still exists) - $130 for Home & Student version but often discounted with under various online sale events
