Hey guys! I'm looking for a laptop to use in university specifically for a business program. I will only be using this laptop for presentations and notes with a couple of programs such as Itunes and windows live messenger. My budget for a laptop around $400- $700. I've read reviews on HP, Dell, Acer, and ASUS laptops but i'm still not too sure which type I should get. Size wise, nothing bigger than 15.6".
Thanks in advance for all your help!

The HP Envy that is onsale this week is a great choice for what you will be doing:
This model is thin and light, plus with enough power and capacity to handle what you need it to do - plus for $569 it is easily the best deal available right now.
The pictures online are ok, but if you have a chance to go to a Best Buy store you should do it as this model looks great!

I have to second that. The HP Envy is really nice. It's thin, light, and good quality.
I'm thinking about picking this model up myself; the only thing I would say that it lacks (that more expensive models have) is a higher resolution screen. But at the price point, it's a great buy.
Another model I would highly recommend is the Samsung Series 5. It's also slim and features an AMD Trinity processor:

Don't buy HP laptop. You would be wasting your time on slow start-up. Go to the store and turn off a machine and then turn it on. You will know what I mean.
AMD processor is not good. Go with ASUS with 8GB of RAM.

^ Speed of a computer has nothing to do with its manufacturer. Also, AMD processors are good and anymore than 4GB of RAM is a waste for what OP is doing.
For a regular 15.6" laptop, get this: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/asus-asus-15-6
For a lighter 14" with good battery life: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/acer-acer-aspi

Yes the Asus at $569 will run Photoshop and Corel, however if you plan to spend a lot of time with those programs you might want to consider getting a computer with more powerful graphics (GPU).
Both these model have dedicated GPU's that will make photo & video editing much faster:
Of course there are plenty of other options available as well, and the Asus you are interested in will still work okay as well.

stay away from gateway, acer, emachine, hp, compaq, lg....they are all really bad
emachine is the lower line of gateway & now they are part of acer as a whole, HP was good before they bought compaq (bring the lower line) out which now the quality have gone downhill, and LG.
go with asus, msi, lenovo, dell, samsung, toshiba, fujistu as they are reputable in the computer world
if u havent notice, usually companies like acer, gateway, hp, etc that sells a lot of refurbished computers, there's a reason why there are so many of them, its because they are **bleep**
