'08 Smart Car Audio Install

[ Edited ]

Hey,

I have an '08 smart car covertible with the standard factory 6 disc audio system which totally sucks when driving down the highway with the top and windows down. I can hardly hear anything. Unfortunately I know nothing about car audio, Is there a powerful yet really compact set of speakers, subwoofer and whatever else I need that fits a smart car without taking up much room? And will I need a new deck, if so I don't want to ruin the factory look of my dash, can the new deck be hidden in the glove box while leaving the old one operational? What would be the costs involved? Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

Thanks ~Smart 24 (a.k.a. audio dummy):smileyhappy:

Seeing as replacing the speakers in your vehicle takes a decent amount of time, I would do things in steps.

1. Replace the deck with and after market unit. I'd go with a double din unit, as it will look cleaner and give you more options - video, GPS, etc

2. Add a aftermarket 4ch speaker amplifier to your new aftermarket deck or factory unit. (I only say do this first to see how loud your stock speakers can get - you can be pretty suprised sometimes)

3. Replace two speakers at a time.

4. Replace the other two speakers.

5. Add a subwoofer if you find your lower BASS sounds are lacking.

Just remember after each step to listen to it with different types or media - radio, talk radio, rock, pop, etc. That way you can decide when to stop adding stuff
