I have an 03 sunfire with an AZTEK 03 AM-FM-stereo stock CD player. I bought 4 x 6 speakers 2 yrs ago. I thought they would handle the watts the player has. 1 has blown. What should I be buying?

were they blown? or did they just wear out because they were cheaply made? what brand and model did you get?

what do you expect out of your sound system?

how much do you have to spend on the system in the next three months?

Do you like music with BASS? or do you just listen to AM radio?

No speakers are going to be bullet proof or work with everything, unless you get really lucking. But buying a decent set of speakers isn't going to be to hard if you know what you expect out of them.

But if you want a quick answer ----> I'd go with a set of pioneer 4x6" for a direct replacement (or custom fit a set of 5 1/4" pioneers for a little more sound), for that OEM radio.

I usually keep reciepts ect, but for these speakers I didn't. I'm pretty sure they are 4 x 6 Pioneers, they were around $100. >. I don't really want to take the door panel apart right now...lol. I listen to Heavy Metal CDs mostly and some radio. One bass is blown, and it's the speaker that I have the bal away from. I don't like alot of bass. I was serfing the net trying to find the output of my OEM deck but couldn't find anything. Should I be looking for speakers according to it's max watts? (whatever that is) I just want to replace them with another 4 x 6.

did futureShop do the install?

if they did have them remove the speakers and find out what failed on them.

could be -> bad connect (fixable)

                 Rusted out speaker

                 dried out surround

                 dried out and cracked cone

If you know that, then the next set of speakers may have a better change at lasting longer if you can prevent what happened to the first pair.

4x6" speakers I'd stick with pioneer or apline
