My Sony laptop only works when it is plugged in. When i unplug it shuts down. I am guessing it is the battery. Do you think that is correct? Also does Futureshop carry these replacement batteries for Sony VGP BPS22 ?

How old is the battery? What is the laptop make and model? This happened to me recently. A technician discovered a problem with the power management software and just needed to have it updated.

A first troubleshooting step for battery issues is always to remove the battery, power on the computer, and then put the battery back into the computer. Sometimes it gets a little loose or something shuts off in the battery and it needs to be disconnected to reset that. If that doesn't help, as XL suggests search for an update for any power management or battery monitor software. If the issue still persists then I would look at replacing it, and the best place to look for replacements is the manufacturer.
