Computer Cpu Power Help

My desktop computer recently stopped working. It started beeping when I turned it on. I've narrowed the problem down to the CPU power supply. When the 4 pin power connector  is plugged in, the computer starts up and then beeps until I turn it off. When I unplug it, the computer doesn,t beep, but there's no point because it can't run without the CPU. Is there a problem with the 4 pin connector? If so, can i replace just the connector or do I have to buy a new power supply?

Re: Computer Cpu Power Help

Firstly are you absolutely sure that it is the connector causing the problem? You may not get any beeps from the computer with the 4-Pin connecter disconnected because  the computer is not running its POST.

The first things to do is reseat things like connectors, expansion cards and RAM. If you don't want to mess around with your computer (and it seems like your new at this) you might just want to contact a local computer technician who should be able to diagnose and repair your issue promptly.

Re: Computer Cpu Power Help

In regards to what Dave had to say, if you do plan on re-seating items in your computer, please do be extremely careful when it comes to ESD (Electrostatic discharge). If you are shocking parts in your computer, then there will definately be problems with it. Make sure you discharge yourself with the computer casing, or if you are worried about ESD take it to a local technician to have a look at it. They won't give you any shocking surprises :smileywink:.
