For Kaspersky Pure, once it detects a virus, is there anything I have to do to get the virus off my laptop

Do a scan of your hard drive.  Is the virus still there?

With Norton the virus removal is automatic, unless it's a toughie.  If you do a second scan, you won't find the virus.
