How to become a computer services technician.

I was just curious on the certification and such that was required to apply for a position in computer services.

Re: How to become a computer services technician.

The only certification that is required is the full CompTIA A+. Back when I took it, this was split into two different tests: one for hardware, and one for software. This may have changed since then -- it would be a good idea to check what exams you need to complete to get full A+ certification.

The only other requirement is that you must be at least 18 years of age. People tend to keep 'interesting things' on their computers that should not be exposed to minors.

Once you're fully A+ certified and meet the age requirement, fill out an application for a job in computer services, and away you go!

Contact your local community college if you've already graduated from high school. Many community colleges offer computer service technician training programs that can help you get started. Earn your A+ certification from the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) to designate you as a qualified computer service technician. To register to take the exam and locate a testing center near you, visit the CompTIA website. Leverage your chance to become a successfully employed computer service technician by expanding your credentials to include certification of the computer service technician (CST) exam, Keep in mind that a computer service technician must participate in continued education and training to stay ahead of the competition and advance to long-term employment opportunities. This is especially true if you intend to specialize, such as in servicing computer networks and operating systems
