This most commonly occurs when the typist has their wrists too low to the laptop, and inadvertently brush their wrist to the touchpad, which registers the touch as taps and clicks.
Try lifting your wrists, or turning off the touchpad while you type, and see if that resolves the issue.
Hope that helps!

Thanks Tanarus!
That leads to the next question... how do I turn off the Touch Pad?!
Thanks!

Some laptops will have a button near the touchpad in between the left and right mouse buttons to toggle it on or off. Others have a key combination of Fn and one of the function keys to do it, it would have a picture of a hand with a pointing finger over a rectangle. Gateway also has the long way listed on their website here.
