Hi. I have one of the hp laptops with the nvidea chip problem althogh it is not on their warranty extension plan because it has the intel processor. It is just over two years old and out of warranty. Hp refuses to do anything for me. I was just wondering if Future Shop is going after hp for this product defect and if there is anything you can do for me. I purchased it a future shop dec 07. I only had the maufactures 1 year warranty.

Since the unit is out of warranty, Future Shop can send it to a service depot for you, where you can be provided an estimate for the repair. For out-of-warranty cases like this, though, I recommend dealing with the manufacturer directly -- they can often give the best price and fastest turnaround time on these kind of repairs.
Having said all that, though, it's very likely any repair depot will need to replace the entire motherboard for you. Not only will this be costly, but it's likely you'll end up with another of the same motherboard, with another defective nVidia chip. (The alternative is that they repair the motherboard you're using, which might be cheaper, but it's a bandaid solution at best.) Given your situation, consider a brand new laptop, as well.

Thank you for your reply. I have already purchased a new laptop but am still upset that I have a fairly new $1000.00 laptop that doesn't"t work. I was just checking to see if Future Shop is trying to get HP to do something about this problem. It is amazing that the DV9500 thread on the HP website has over 1000 posts from dissatisfied clients and they are still not addressing the problem. I assume its just a matter of time but it seems to have been going on for a couple of years now.
