It's Me again..... I'm having some power trouble with my laptop... not the problem tho, as I have already had it dropped off at FutureShop for warranty repair.... but what I am wondering, is if they will wipe my HDD even if it's not related (which it isn't.... I've had it checked, it's the motherboard...)... and even tho I backed it up, I only just got my laptop back from warranty repair; probably 2 months now.... AND I JUST got all my programs back on.... and this happens....
When it (HP Pavilion DV6568SE) was under HP warranty still, once, I was able to go to on-line chat, and talked to a lady, and she was able to get the guys repairing my laptop (when they got it, as they had not recieved it yet....), by leaving a note on the system, to NOT WIPE HDD..... so when I got it back, it was not wiped.... just repaired....
SO my question is.... Can I call FutureShop and get them to somehow not wipe it??... Or to tell HP (they will be sending it there...) to not wipe it??..... I do not have the time to "start-over" again.... Not in the summer....
ANy and ALL advice on this would be fantastic!!.... but please do reply quick....
Thanks!

In short: no. When you send in a laptop to the repair depot through Future Shop (either through HP and PSP warranty) you are signing a repair contract that gives the technicians permission to wipe the computer and reinstall windows. You are also signing that you've backed up all of your data.
If you force the technicians to leave a note saying "Customer requested the drive not to be wiped" three things might happen:
1) The laptop might not need to be wiped and will not be.
2) The depot technician will ignore the message and wipe it anyways (since you've agreed to wipe it in the contract).
3) Ship it back unrepaired because the repair cannot fully proceed without a wipe.
Just backup your data. You want to wipe your unit every year anyway to remove excess junk.

Hey Dave.... Yes I do get my laptop wiped yearly, but this is the 2nd time I've had to send it in within the past 4 months..... But it is too late anyways, and it is probably wiped by now.... Thanks for your reply anyways though...
