Future Shop's technicians will check all the hardware to ensure it's working properly. They'll finish the Windows 7 setup that comes preinstalled on the system, and set up User Accounts as requested. They'll download and install all Windows Updates, to fix security and compatibility problems. They'll remove any applications from the system that can cause the computer to slow down during startup, or applications that serve little purpose altogether. (An example is the HP Wireless Assistant -- it sits in memory, and tells you when you've turned your wireless adapter on and off... and that's it.) The technicians will also run a few automated tweaks to get the system to perform with fewer issues.

If you purchased a printer with your computer, the technicians will install the printer software into the computer, as well as set up the printer -- install the ink cartridges, align the print heads, and whatnot. If you purchase any anti-virus software or Microsoft Office, the techs will install, activate, and update those, as well.

Finally, the technicians will create a set of System Recovery disks, which contain Windows, as well as all the drivers and software the computer came with. If something happens to your system that requires you to reinstall Windows, and the built-in recovery partition isn't working, those disks will erase everything and reset the computer back to its working factory condition.

Note that this setup is completely optional -- there's nothing Future Shop's technicians do that anyone can't do themselves. This is a service Future Shop's techs perform all the time, though, so they have a good working knowledge of what to do and what to leave alone, as well as tools that help get the job done faster and more thoroughly. It's also nice to take a computer home, plug it in, turn it on... and it's good to go, without having to deal with any of that extra setup.

Hope that helps!

So, when the Futureshop technician clicks through and accepts Microsoft (and other vendors) EULA (End user licence agreement), this would make Futureshop culpable for violation of said terms which are accepted by the technician, right?

No it wouldn't.  When such services are performed, the customer agrees that Futureshop accepts the relevent agreements on their behalf, not on Futureshop's behalf.  This is covered by the paperwork signed in store.
