The ability to hook your laptop up to your TV through HDMI depends entirely on what type of outputs there are on your laptop.
If your laptop has a HDMI output, all you need is the HDMI cable and it will hook up fine.
If your laptop has DVI output, then you will need a DVI to HDMI cable or adapter. With the cable, that is all you will need. With the adapter, you will also need to have a HDMI cable.
If your laptop has VGA output, it gets a little more complicated. You will need a VGA to DVI adapter (I don't think FS sells these), and then use a DVI to HDMI cable like the one I described above. This might make things a bit bulky for you. In this case, I would recommend looking to see if your TV has a VGA input ( a lot of newer TVs do). If it does, then all you need is a VGA cable (computer cable with blue connectors).
Now I amy be mistaken, but when going from a computer to a TV, regardless of the method of hookup, I believe you do not get the audio signal with it, so you would have to find another way of getitng the audio signal from your computer to your TV or home theatre system.
If you would like, register on the forums and give us a bit more information on both your TV and your laptop, and we will be able to guide you in the best method of hooking them up together.
Hope this helps!
