I hooked up my receiver (rx) so that all outputs to my HDTV are through a single HDMI Out on the rx. When I use the Component IN to the rx with a DVD I don't get a signal on the TV. Do also I need a Component Out cable from rx to TV?

If the receiver is new enough and has the capacity to upconvert to an HDMI signal, then it may be as simple as going into the setup menu and enabling the HDMI upconverting feature.
However some newer receivers still only have passthrough capabilities. This means that whatever is hooked in, needs to be connected out. For example, if there is a component cable in, you will need a component cable out. IF there is upconverting, a component cable in will work with the HDMI out.
Check your manual or online specs to see if your receiver has that capability.
