How are your credentials ?

As an audiophile, sometimes I wonder if it would be worth it to get someone to look at my home theatre setup and see if there can be any improvements made on my connections. I can see the potential benifits in such a service. What kind of credentials do your intallers have? What makes them better than some home theatre salesman who has been working in the industry for a couple years. I am confident the sales reps at futureshop know thier product knowledge and can tell me much about the technology and it's benifits, but that is different than actually hooking things up and know about things like how to PROFFESIONALLY hook things up like banana clips without loss of signal, speaker calibration, etc. I have confidence that I can hook things up as well as a sales guy, I am looking for a real proffessional. Someone that knows the ins and outs of the industry. Someone that is certified by a reputable training staff. Would I get a better service from a designated home theatre installation company in the yellow pages ? I am not trying to sound skeptical :smileyhappy: I just want verification of your credentials so I can make an informed decision.

Hi audioguy,

Thanks for the question.  As stated on the ConnectPro site, each and every Home Theatre ConnectPro Expert receives industry recognized state-of-the-art certification from Media Dynamics.  If you still have questions or concerns, then I would recommend that you head on down to your local Future Shop and talk with some HT installers in person as I'm sure they'd be more than happy to answer any questions you may have!

Cheers,

FREE in home consultation ?

I noticed you offer free in home consultation. What exactly does this entail? I am looking for some proffesional advice on connecting speakers, recievers etc. What if they get to my home and decide that nothing can be improved ? Will they still do free consultation if my devices are already hooked up ? I don't want to waste anyone's time, but it sure would be nice to get free advice.

I'm not exactly certain on the details of this - I would recommend either dropping by your local Future Shop and talking with a ConnectPro expert about this, or give them a call to find out precisely what this service entails.

audioguy - Consider the following changes to your audio:...

audioguy - Consider the following changes to your audio: moving your speakers closer or further from the wall, putting foam in the ports to tighten the bass, placing the sub-woofer in a corner of the room, adding a rug if you have hardwood floors, or placing sound-absorbing decorations on your walls. Those things can have a much greater impact than changing wires or banana plugs. Your room affects the sound and modifying your room can be as effective than modifying your equipment. And your speakers are not designed for your particular room and therefore may need to be moved or modified to sound the best in your room. Is this the kind of expertise that "ConnectPro" offers? Because that's very different from simply knowing how to wire a room and connect equipment. And it's also very personal. Some people prefer very bright and forward sounding speakers while other people prefer very warm and laid-back sounding speakers. Some people prefer the directional sound of monopole rear speakers while other people prefer the ambient sound of dipole rear speakers. So there's no one correct way to setup and calibrate your audio. You have to find what sounds good to your ears, not anyone else's ears and not a sound meter.

combo DVD/VCR

My system: 42" Sony Bravia, Shaw PVR, combo Toshiba SD-V395KC DVD/VCR, all bought from FShop.

Everything is cabled as instructed by your cabling sales person in the Victoria store, using component cxn to the TV, HDMI from PVR to TV

The DVD shows up on Video 5 just fine. The VCR doesn't, though the TV is set to Ch 3. Can't see my old VCR movies, can't record. When I switch from DVD to VCR, the DVD screen remains on.

What's the answer?

Re: combo DVD/VCR

What I dont understand(No disrespect intended) Is why your holding on to old technology,

VHS tapes are horrible looking at best and Dolby prologic surround quality is just as old and tired sounding,

DVDs are so cheap now(anywhere from $5-$10 for used and $10 to $20 for new(maybe a bit more)

I got rid of all my VHS tapes years ago, They just took up too much room and the quality wasnt good either,

Thank God for blu-ray and lossless audio!! and 1080p video!!!!

AudioGuy...

I'll tell you one thing, Dont go spending $150.00 on HDMI cables thats just a rip off,,

You can get by with $50.00 Highspeed HDMI cables that will perform just as well as those name brand $150-$200 ones
