I know your post has been here awhile and no replies. Not sure if u went ahead and purchased a DAW yet but there are a couple questions you would need to answer before buying:
Are u a musician or a DJ?
If ur a musician you would need a DAW and an interface. An interface is a basically a sound card with analog to digital converters that is compatible with a DAW. For example; m-audio fast track which includes pro tools se a very popular DAW in the industry.
If your making beats you would need a midi instrument to trigger sounds, it's not really necessary in some cases but very useful for good workflow. There's also serato, which is very popular among djs.
Anyway that's the skinny, I would need to know more about your needs to help u choose the right DAW.
Hope this helps.
